Ukraine war LIVE: Putin humiliated as huge explosions hit Crimea for second night in a row | World | News

Huge explosions have rocked Crimea for a second night in a row, forcing the temporary closure of a bridge connecting Russia to the peninsula.

Multiple explosions were geolocated to the western outskirts of Yevpatoriya, a small city located on the western coastline of Crimea. Experts believe the strikes, for which Ukraine has not claimed responsibilty, were targeting a Russian long-range air-to-surface missile battery nearby.

Videos of the attack showed columns of fire and smoke rising above the cityscape while subsequent footage captured one downed drone in the courtyard of an apartment block. There was also a single video showing one of the drones flying just above the city.

Several Russian military units are located in the region – since Vladimir Putin illegally annexed the peninsula in 2014, it has become a vital staging post for soldiers fighting in his “special military operation” on mainland Ukraine – while the Saki military airfield is also nearby. Ukraine has tried to strike that target before.

The Kerch Strait Bridge, located 170 miles to the east, roughly the entire width of the peninsula, was temporarily stopped as the drones fell. Ukraine has targeted the bridge multiple times with drones.
