There is ‘genuine concern’ if Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight will happen

Whether the planned Jake Paul-Mike Tyson bout happens is becoming a bigger and bigger if than a guaranteed when, according to a report on Monday.

Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix said there was “genuine concern” about whether the fight would still happen following Tyson’s recent medical issue during a cross-country flight that led to the bout already being postponed from its original July 20 date at AT&T Stadium.

While Mannix said during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” that there were two dates being explored to reschedule the fight for – one in mid-October and the other in mid-November – other fighters on the card are growing concerned about the planned event.

“There is genuine concern from people that are also on the card — I mean, there are another number of fights that are also on the card — about this specific card moving forward,” said Mannix.

“Again, Mike Tyson is 57 years old; he’s almost 58 years old. They’re saying it’s a minor ulcer issue, but I don’t think anything’s minor at that stage of your life, especially when it comes to putting yourself in the proper shape to fight a professional boxing match.”

Tyson suffered nausea and dizziness due to an ulcer flare up late last month while he was traveling from Miami to Los Angeles.

The fight between Paul and Tyson was officially postponed less than a week after the health issue.

Mannix expressed that he didn’t think the fight was “completely off.”

“It’s certainly not out of the question,” he said. “But again, there are people involved who are expressing skepticism that this specific fight is going to move forward.”

In a video posted to social media last week after the postponement, Paul said he was ‘heartbroken, speechless, gutted’ about the news.

He added that he wanted Tyson to be healthy and that even with the unfortunate news, Tyson was still talking trash.

“I want Mike to be healthy. And he still says he’s going to knock me out and that I bought myself some time. So Mike is still talking s–t over there,” Paul said with a chuckle.

Paul’s brother, Logan, teased the idea of stepping in for Tyson in a post on X last week.
