Rob Gronkowski is spiking this Patriots celebration.
The New England legend was not a fan of how his former team acted after its game-winning touchdown in an upset win 29-25 over the Bills in Week 7.
With the Patriots trailing in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, quarterback Mac Jones fired a pass to tight end Mike Gesicki, who caught the pass for a touchdown and then proceeded to lead the charge in a Griddy-filled celebration.
Gronkowski, while talking on Fanduel TV’s “Up & Adams” show, took exception to what he felt was an overzealous celebration.
“They just won one game and they celebrated, like, more than we would when we won the Super Bowl,” Gronkowski said on the show. “That was, like, one of the most absurd celebrations. I’m like, ‘Wow, they won a game.’ They went that crazy. They’re acting like they’ve never been there before. … They were griddlying or griddying all over the place to an absurd level.”
Patrick Cheung, Gronkowski’s former Patriots teammate, agreed that head coach Bill Belichick did not like celebrations like that when they played in New England, but did push back on the younger generation showing some emotion.
“It’s a division win, very much needed,” Cheung said. “That’s a big booster for the team. Whatever they gotta do, celebrate all you want to, just win some more games — we’ll be good.”
It was a big win for the Patriots, who now are 2-5 and are still toiling in the basement of the AFC East, not a spot a Belichick-coached team is used to being at this point in the season.
The Patriots have another chance to make some inroads in the division when they take on the rival Dolphins on the road in Miami on Sunday.
