Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, hired the same divorce attorney used by King Charles III when the and Diana broke up in the 1990s, according to The Times.
Spencer, 60, is reportedly being represented by Fiona Shackleton as he gets legally divorced from his third wife, Karen Spencer.
The 9th Earl Spencer announced the split after 13 years of marriage on Saturday.
Known as the “steel magnolias” of lawyers, Shackleton, 68, was hired by the king (formerly Prince Charles) after he separated from Diana in 1992. They finalized their divorce in 1996.
Alleged cheating by both parties was one of the main causes of their split.
Diana would go on to seemingly date the Egyptian filmmaker Dodi Fayed before their sudden deaths in 1997.
Charles, now 75, would later reunite with his long-time love Camilla Parker-Bowles, whom he would marry in 2002.
Shackelton also represented Prince Andrew in his divorce from Sarah Ferguson in 1996.
Some of her other past clients include Paul McCartney and Madonna.
The late Queen Elizabeth II gave the lawyer the title of Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia back in 2010. Shackleton is currently a member of the House of Lords in Parliament.
According to the Daily Mail, Shackleton charges £550 ($700) per hour.
Spencer has not publicly confirmed that Shackleton is backing him in his divorce.
The younger brother of the late Princess of Wales announced his divorce to the Daily Mail over the weekend.
“It is immensely sad,” he said. “I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future.”
Spencer and his third wife were married since June 2011 and have a 12-year-old daughter, Charlotte Diana. The exes also have other children from their past marriages.
According to the Daily Mail, the former couple are divorcing partly because of “the strain” it took on Spencer writing about the physical and sexual abuse he experienced at boarding school in his memoir, “A Very Private School.”
He revealed in the book that he was sexually abused as a child at an English boarding school and revelation for the first time to a therapist.
“I whispered to him that I was sexually abused as a child by an adult. And I remember him looking so shocked, and he had heard it all,” Spencer wrote.
Spencer also reflected on his close relationship with his late sister in his memoir.
“She was the closest person to me growing up,” he said. “We had two much older sisters and a baby brother who had died. Then there was Diana and me. We were very close.”
Spencer delivered the eulogy at Diana’s funeral in 1997. He’s kept her memory alive by remaining close with her sons Prince William and Prince Harry.
