Piers Morgan once hailed Love Island cast ‘morons’ – but now has link to new star | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

It’s almost that time of year again when ITV viewers get ready to welcome a fresh batch of singletons into the Love Island villa. Despite the show being a huge success with the nation and famous faces alike, there’s one celebrity who may not be watching the upcoming series.

Over the years, former Good Morning Britain star Piers Morgan hasn’t held back on sharing his thoughts on ITV’s Love Island. In 2019, the daytime breakfast show was showing a clip of Molly-Mae Hague speaking to bombshell Danny Williams.

Although Piers, who was clearly unimpressed with the segment, quickly cut the video as he went on a rant about the dating show. He quipped: “Sorry, I’m cutting that.

“Something that is really jarring with me, we’re watching Love Island morons, banging on about moronic stuff. When actually we’re trying to wage a campaign that will get 3.7 million pensioners their TV licence.”

However, this isn’t the only time Piers has slammed the programme as he said the 13 minutes he watched the show were the “most destructive” of his life.

In his column in The Sun, he added: “Nothing so perfectly epitomises this ghastly, fraudulent, breathtakingly ignorant assault on our senses that sends such a diabolically damaging message to Britain’s youth about how to behave and succeed in life.”

However, with the new series just around the corner, the 2024 cast of Love Island is beginning to be revealed, with one islander having a link to the 59-year-old.

Recruitment Manager Munveer Jabbal is one of the singletons who will be looking for love this year.

When asked by ITV what his claim to fame is, the 30-year-old said: “I’m mates with Spencer Morgan (Piers Morgan’s son). We met when I moved to Fulham in 2018.”

As one of his son’s friends will be heading into the villa, could Piers be swayed to watch the new series?

Munveer, who is from Surrey, has admitted to having quite high standards when it comes to trying to find someone.

He said: “Dating in London is horrible. You don’t know who’s single… but now you’re putting me in a place where everyone’s single so there’s no issues around that.”

The islander could be lucky in love with 26-year-old Samantha Kenny who is also heading into the villa this summer.

Ahead of her Love Island debut, the Makeup Artist said: “I think I will definitely bring some fire, I’m very opinionated and wear my heart on my sleeve.

“I’m really bubbly too so I’ll definitely have a laugh as well as bringing some scouse glamour.”

Speaking about the type she goes for, Samantha added: “ I love the boys down south. Tall, dark and cockney is my type.”

Love Island starts at 9pm Monday 3rd June at 9pm on ITV1, ITV2, ITVX & STV.
