One of Josh Allen’s worst performances

Hero, zeros and the full blitz from the Jets’ 22-16 win over the Bills on Monday night:

Hero

Welcome to the NFL, Xavier Gipson.

The undrafted rookie free agent receiver, featured on “Hard Knocks,” made the Jets a winner with a 65-yard punt return in overtime.

The 42-yard Sam Martin punt didn’t have much hang time and Gipson reversed field after catching the ball on the right hash and ran down the left sideline behind a wall of blockers.

He cut back to evade a few would-be tacklers to score the first touchdown of his career.

Zero

Josh Allen played one of the worst games of his career.

He had three interceptions.

He lost a key fumble in the fourth quarter that allowed the Jets to go ahead.

Allen completed 29 of 41 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown, and was also sacked five times.

He missed on both of his passing attempts in overtime.

Unsung Hero

Safety Jordan Whitehead single-handedly kept the Jets in the game.

Twice, he had interceptions of Allen in the red zone as the Bills threatened to build their lead.

Then his third pick of Allen late in the third quarter set up the Jets’ game-tying touchdown drive. Whitehead entered the game with seven career interceptions in his five-year career and nearly had half of that in one game.

Key Stat

4: Offensive plays for Aaron Rodgers before he left the game with what the Jets termed a left ankle injury.

He didn’t return.

X-rays were negative.
