Netflix’s Wednesday makes two major changes ahead of season 2 in huge shake-up | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Production for Netflix’s record-breaking hit Wednesday is now underway for the second time, with fans looking forward to seeing the loveable cast return for season 2.

Jenna Ortega will return as lead character Wednesday Addams, who is a member of the famous Addams Family.

The welcome news comes after the actress’ shock departure from another Netflix project, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

Most of her fellow Wednesday cast members will also be returning, save for one huge player, who has since addressed his absence from the cast least in season 2.

Percy Hynes White, who played potential love interest Xavier Thorpe, was axed from the show despite being seemingly lined up to have a significant part in its second instalment.

The news comes after the actor faced allegations of misconduct last year, which he has firmly denied.

Xavier’s absence isn’t the only huge difference in season 2, however, as it seems there has also been a major location shake-up.

While filming for season 1 was primarily located in Romania, production is said to have been relocated to County Wicklow, Ireland. It is believed that logistical challenges are the reason behind the change.

Excitingly, this has now been confirmed, with Screen Ireland revealing Wednesday’s shoot will be the “largest production to ever film in Ireland”.

Celebrating the filming record, Ireland’s prime minister, Taoiseach Simon Harris, visited the set.

There, he met with the show’s creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, as well as series director Tim Burton.

The politician said: “I’m delighted to see Ireland continues to be chosen as a location to film series and movies which supports our economy, creates jobs, showcases our creative talents and promotes our country on a global stage.”

“Ireland has long been a home for MGM Television productions from the original Vikings in 2012, to Vikings: Valhalla, and now Wednesday,” said Head of MGM Television Lindsay Sloane.

“We have found resources in Ireland to be top notch and an incredibly skilled group of professionals and apprentices that help bring our productions to life.”

Another change fans can look forward to is some thrilling new additions to the show’s cast list.

New cast members include Fargo’s Steve Buscemi, Doctor Who’s Billie Piper, Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna Lumley and Westworld’s Thandie Newton.

Wednesday season two is expected to be released on Netflix in late 2024 or early 2025.
