Moment plane explodes into fireball after crash killing pilot and passenger | World | News

Two people have been killed during a family-friendly airshow after their plane plummeted to the ground, horrifying footage shows.

The pilot and passenger, aged 67 and 37, died immediately following the crash while three people in a car near the impact site suffered serious burns and were rushed to hospital, police said. A little boy on the ground was also hurt.

The small propeller-driven aircraft was flying at the Borgond air show in Fejer county near Budapest in Hungary when it crashed at around 3.20pm local time.

The event had to be cancelled afterwards and crowds of several thousand people were ushered off the site.

The footage shows several civilians in shock with their hands on their head as the crashed plane erupts into a fireball.

The small aircraft was a US Army T-28 Trojan built in 1951. It was performing a rotation movement but failed to ascend in time to avoid the ground.

The horrifying clip shows the moment the plane hit the ground in front of the crowds, before a fireball and thick black smoke erupts into the sky.

“The small aircraft crashed near a parked car and caught fire,” police said.

“The crowd of several thousand people at the site began to leave the site in an organised manner.”

Andras Cser-Palkovics, the mayor of nearby Szekesfehervar, wrote on Facebook after the accident that what is usually a “day loved by thousands – turned into a tragedy”.

“What happened today is a pain that is hard to put into words for our municipality, our entire city, and for me personally,” he said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and the identities of those killed and injured have not been released to the public.
