Moment lioness leaves family home with Rottweiler in jaws | World | News

Cameras captured the incredible moment a lioness leapt from a family garden with a Rottweiler between its teeth.

A shocked family has released CCTV footage showing a lone lioness entering their compound in Kenya late at night and leaving with their dog.

In the video, which was released this weekend, the lion is seen lurking in the shadows of a well-lit street on the outskirts of Nairobi.

The big cat is seen easily traversing the property’s walls, dropping down into the garden and leaving with the 75kg dog in its mouth.

The bereaved family has told of their shock at the incident – and shown the aftermath of the unsettling event.

Speaking to BBC News Africa, Sylvia Wamai, a resident of the compound who was at home with her family when the dog – named Jaci – was taken, showed reporters the walls of her property.

They were dotted with lion prints, showing the route the cat took when it entered her home.

Joshua Isigi, a worker, said he attempted to scare the lion off after he noticed it had gained entry.

He told reporters he picked up a machete and “scraped it against some iron sheets” in a bid to shoo it away.

But the animal was undeterred and managed to flee the property with the dog in her jaws.

When it emerged, Ms Wamai said, it wasn’t even 10 minutes later, and she added: “Just like that, we lost our dog.”

Jaci and her twin Rottweiler Laser had been with the family for two years before she was taken.

Ms Wamai said that her family is shocked and devastated and that it has made giving their other dog love more difficult.

Sylvia, whose family are shocked and devastated, said: “It’s hard to give one dog love and then remember the other was taken.

And it wasn’t a normal death. It was something that just shocked us out of nowhere. It’s just sad.”
