Met Gala 2024 theme announced as fans ‘pray’ it avoids Kim Kardashian repeat | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The theme for the 2024 Met Gala has some fans thrilled, while others are expressing their concern over the idea.

Vogue have said that the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will be embracing a vintage theme in May 2024, with the invitation reading “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

The renowned New York museum will display 50 historically significant fashion pieces that are too delicate to be worn again.

Hollywood stars will be dressed to impress as they grace the carpet and attend the gala next week, with plenty of planning going into their showstopping gowns.

Per a press release from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the theme is meant to “reactivate the sensory capacities of masterworks in the Museum’s collection through first-hand research, conservation analysis, and diverse technologies—from cutting-edge tools, artificial intelligence, and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes.

The iconic dress, which was 60-years-old at the time, reportedly suffered damage despite Kim only wearing it briefly.

There are conflicting reports, with some suggesting that the gown lost crystals and sustained a tear near the zipper after she wore it.

However, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, the current owner of the famous dress, issued a statement denying any damage occurred while in Kim’s possession.

“From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in,” stated Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s Vice President of Publishing and Licensing.

Meanwhile, Twitter users seemed more intrigued by the theme’s name, questioning its relevance to Disney Princesses.

“Contrary to what the name might suggest upon first glance, the theme is NOT about fairytales, but rather about the historically significant garments that will be displayed at the MET,” one person commented.

Another social media user offered their interpretation of the theme, suggesting: “This Met Gala theme is more about sustainability and reawakening iconic pieces in fashion history that are too delicate to be worn ever again and eventually turn into sleeping beauties.”

The Met will also have a collection on public display from May 10 through September, featuring 250 fashion designs spanning over four centuries, curated by the museum itself.

The exhibition will include works from renowned designers such as Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
