Ryan-Mark Parsons revealed the business tycoon relied heavily on his co-star Baroness Karren Brady in the boardroom as he shared a rare behind-the-scenes insight.
Lord Alan Sugar returned to The Apprentice for the 18th series of his business tycoon show alongside business executive Karren, 54, and show winner Tim Campbell, 46.
A total of 18 candidates are currently taking part in a bid to win a job with the entrepreneur, 76, as they take part in challenges in various locations ranging from London to the Scottish Highlands.
Ryan-Mark, who appeared on the BBC show in 2019 and was one of their youngest contestants to ever take part, has suggested a younger face could soon front the programme – but Lord Sugar has no plans to leave his role.
Speaking about Lord Sugar having his co-star close by, he said: “[When I took part] I would say in the boardroom, you would notice Karen would have to support him with some of the facts when he was examining the tasks but they’re all getting older.
“You need someone like Steven Bartlett or a younger business person going into the show to kind of shake it up
“I think that would make it fresh.”
The former Apprentice candidate admitted he still communicates with Lord Sugar and they follow one another on social media.
“[Lord Sugar] follows me on Twitter. And when I’ve done stuff like Good Morning Britain he has always been supportive on Twitter,” Ryan-Mark explained, but the commentator added the show could do with a format shake-up.
The Apprentice launched in 2005 in the UK. Last year’s winner was boxing gym owner Marnie Swindells.
The British version of the show remains a ratings hit for the BBC, despite the format no longer being as popular in other countries.
Speaking about this year’s contestants, Lord Sugar said: “Let’s be fair, the programme needs to be entertaining also, and you get the entertainment from a whole array of characters.
“We can’t just have stiff boring lawyers and accountants sitting in there… so some of the characters make the show interesting for the viewers.”
