Howard Stern says Travis Kelce ‘has’ to do this one thing for Taylor Swift

Howard Stern said Travis Kelce should hurry up and pop the question to pop queen Taylor Swift — so that NFL star could boost his acting career.

While interviewing sports commentator Stephen A. Smith on Tuesday’s episode of his SiriusXM radio show, Stern said that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end “has to marry Taylor Swift,” suggesting he’d be “crazy” not to take advantage of the lucrative opportunity.

“This is it, this is his chance,” the 70-year-old Stern reiterated.

“Why?” Smith questioned.

Stern, perplexed by the question, responded: “What are you talking about? He will then get a movie career, he’ll be bigger than the Rock.”

Smith conceded the point as “fair,” but argued that Kelce is a star in his own right, even without Swift.

“He is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He’s on the verge of potentially being a three-time Super Bowl champion,” Smith said, referencing the Chiefs’ AFC Championship win — which, perhaps unsurprisingly, went viral after Kelce appeared to tell his superstar girlfriend “I love you” during the team’s postgame celebrations.

During Thursday’s episode of “The Howard Stern Show,” the 70-year-old host said that Travis Kelce “has to marry Taylor Swift” as it’s a lucrative opportunity to “get a movie career.”
Though Kelce has gained a lot of publicity from his romance with Swift, Stephen A. Smith argued that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end would be a star in his own right, without his Grammy Award-winning girlfriend. AP

Smith continued: “[Kelce is] universally recognized as one of the greatest tight ends in the history of football. Good-looking dude, got style, got flair, he’s got skills, he’s got a future in this business — in this business right here — once he retires from football, I’m here to tell you that.”

“He’s the total package, OK?” Smith added during his rant of 34-year-old Kelce, who he also said has “pizzazz.”

“And he’s a really, really good dude,” Smith concluded.

“He doesn’t need her, is what you’re saying?” Stern questioned, prompting Smith to highlight how Swift’s own star power shouldn’t go undervalued.

Smith said he even took his daughters to Swift’s blockbuster “Eras Tour” when she performed at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, describing the three-hour show as “off the chain,” giving him a whole new appreciation for the artist.

“I loved it. I couldn’t believe how much I loved it,” 56-year-old Smith admitted despite having never listened to her music until then.

The romance between the couple, which Swifties have dubbed “Traylor,” has swept talk shows around the country.

In November, Kelce spent his bye week in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to support his lover on an international “Eras Tour” stop, sharing their first public kiss since taking their romance public in September.

In the weeks since, Swift has switched up the lyrics of “Karma” — from “Karma is the guy on the screen” to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” — has celebrated New Year’s with her beau and watched him score a spot in Super Bowl LVIII.

All the while, Swift has generated a reported $331.5 million in “brand value” for the NFL. Her immense influence on the sport also has men and women alike more interested in tuning into the Super Bowl.

According to a recent survey of 2,000 respondents from LendingTree, 15% of men said Swift influenced their NFL viewing hours — and will influence them to watch the big game on Feb. 11 this year — while 12% of women said the same.

The steady progression of Swift and Kelce’s relationship has rumors buzzing that the couple has plans to get engaged as early as this summer, Page Six reported.

The word on the street was that Kelce held off popping the question over the winter holidays because “they don’t want it to seem like it’s rushed insanity” — and he won’t be getting down on one knee for Valentine’s Day for the same reason.

“Taylor and Travis discussed it and there is a plan,” the insider assured Page Six, hinting that “they will get engaged on their one-year anniversary in July.”

Sports betters have even weighed in on the possible engagement, though the majority of FanDuel Sportsbook Canada users have bet that Super Bowl 2024 will not end in a fairy-tale engagement for Swift and Kelce.

Odds on Kelce to propose to Swift on the sports-betting platform opened at +190 for “yes” and -250 for “no.”

It’s important to note that the maximum bet on this market was $100, so no one is getting rich on these two not getting engaged after less than a year of dating.
