Giants’ Daniel Jones stuck in injury limbo, Andrew Thomas practicing

Not yet for Daniel Jones.

But better news for the offensive line.

This is the way the Giants go into their week of preparation for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Jones, dealing with a neck issue, has not been cleared for contact and thus was once again going to be limited as the Giants on Wednesday took the field for practice.

Jones has missed the past two games — the Giants went 1-1 with Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback — and most likely will miss a third consecutive game, unless he receives medical clearance in the next two days.

“Same as he was last week,” coach Brian Daboll said. “He’ll do stuff in practice, non-contact.”

Daboll said Jones will once again be the starting quarterback whenever he is healthy and ready to return.

If Taylor starts again, he could have a bolstered offensive line in front of him.

Left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has not played since straining a hamstring in the season-opening loss to the Cowboys, returned to practice, participating on a limited basis.

A case can be made that Thomas is the best player on the Giants’ roster. He was signed prior to the season to a five-year extension worth $117.5 million.

If Thomas is able to play it allows Justin Pugh, 33, to move inside to left guard, where he is more comfortable, after filling in the past two games at left tackle.

“It would be great,” Daboll said about a possible return for Thomas.

In the early stages of practice, Thomas and Evan Neal – who missed last week’s 14-7 victory over the Commanders with a sprained ankle – were off on the side, working with trainers as the other offensive linemen went through position drills.

Center John Michael Schmitz hurt his shoulder in the Week 4 loss to the Seahawks, forcing Ben Bredeson to move from guard to center. Schmitz also returned Wednesday to work on a limited basis.
