Calgary Flames’ Chris Snow won’t wake up after cardiac arrest

Calgary Flames assistant GM Chris Snow will not wake up after suffering cardiac arrest, according to the latest update provided by his wife, Kelsie.

Kelsie said tests on Wednesday confirmed the diagnosis.

“In life, Chris offered his body to a clinical trial to help others,” Kelsie posted on X on Thursday morning. “In death he will do the same. He remains on life support while organ donation is arranged. We are so proud of him.”

Chris, 42, has battled ALS for four years after being diagnosed in 2019.

He was originally given 12 months to live and has become an inspiring story for many.

He suffered a recent “catastrophic brain injury.

“With a shattered heart I’ve come to share that yesterday Chris became unresponsive and went into cardiac arrest,” Kelsie posted on X on Wednesday.

“Paramedics and doctors were able to get his heart beating again but, devastatingly, a scan showed Chris has suffered a catastrophic brain injury caused by lack of oxygen. His doctors do not expect him to wake up from this.

“My chest feels cracked open and hollowed out. Chris is the most beautiful, brilliant person I’ll ever know, and doing life without him feels untenable. Hug your people.”

Chris continued his work with the Flames this year, despite this tough battle, and also serves as the VP of Hockey Operations.

“We cannot convey the impact Chris has on our organization, not only in his work but the leadership & positivity he brings,” the Flames posted on X on Wednesday in a quote tweet containing Kelsie’s post. “Despite his own challenges, he is a beacon of light, uplifting all of us around him. Our hearts are with Kelsie, Cohen & Willa as Chris continues to battle.”

Chris was a former sportswriter who covered the Red Sox.

He made the transition to working for a professional team in 2006 when he joined the Wild, before joining the Flames in 2011.

The couple has two children, Cohen and Willa.
