BBC star inundated with support after return to work amid cancer battle and horror crash | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Glenn Campbell thanked his social media followers for their messages after he made an appearance on-air. The BBC broadcaster was diagnosed with a brain tumour after he was rushed to hospital following a bike crash in June 2023.

The terrifying incident left Glenn, from Islay, with ten broken ribs and a bloodied face. An MRI scan later alerted doctors to the cancer and he underwent a gruelling operation to remove most of the tumour.

Taking to X on June 29, the political editor announced he was slowly returning to work amid the General Election 2024.

He tweeted: “Nice to get back to the day job in the final stages of the election with an appearance on Reporting Scotland on Friday. I’ve been popping up on radio and @BBCScotlandNews online too. Nothing like a full return but good to be involved as I’ve not missed an election since 1997.”

Glenn’s 46,900 followers flocked to comment on the post as they offered their well wishes.

One person wrote: “Great to see you back on the TV, Glenn,” while another penned: “Now it’s an election! Great to see you back, Glenn.”

A third gushed: “That has genuinely made my day – great to see you back on screen.”

A fourth shared: “Great to have you back on our screens for the election, Glenn – hope you’re keeping well.”

Another added: “Glad that you have recovered.”

A year on from the incident and shock diagnosis, Glenn announced in May that he had stopped his chemotherapy treatment.

He admitted that his immune system was struggling to bounce back between the numerous rounds and he has to “give my body a break”.

At the time, the political editor hinted the break in his treatment could let him return to work after taking time out to recover from his injuries and diagnosis.
