BBC fans in tears as Lenny Henry issues four words in final Comic Relief show | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

It was an emotional moment for Sir Lenny Henry on Friday night after he gave a moving goodbye speech at the end of BBC‘s Comic Relief. The presenter simply told viewers “It’s been an honour” as his final Comic Relief came to an end.

Before Sir Lenny’s final words, David Tennant said: “Lenny, these next three minutes are dedicated to you because I know that a change is going to come as one of your favourite songs of all time.

“Well, we got someone very special to sing it for you now. Please give if you can during the song…nothing will make Lenny happier than a huge total at the end of the night.

“Now performing, A Change Is Going To Come, this is the soulful sound of JERUB.”

After JERUB’s performance, Sir Lenny said: “That was such a vibe in the studio, that was beautiful, thank you, JERUB.”

Sir Lenny read out the total money raised so far for Comic Relief before signing off the show.

“It’s not me. It’s been an honour and it has been a pleasure.

“All of the praise should go to the British public with their huge heart and mind-bending generosity.”

Sir Lenny’s co-stars also took a moment to pay tribute to the show stalwart earlier in the show – and it left viewers in tears.

Taking to X, one said: “That tribute from the people in Africa that Lenny Henry has helped over the years has got me! What a man.”

“I’m not crying, you’re crying #ComicRelief @LennyHenry,” another commented as a third echoed: “Ok I’m crying now.”

A fourth fan stated: “#ComicRelief making me cry with that VT for Lenny Henry.”

“I don’t care this a love in for Sir Lenny Henry. It is wonderfully touching #ComicRelief,” a fifth said.

A sixth went on: “What a fabulous tribute to Lenny Henry that was.”

While another praised: “Well that was b****y beautiful! And I’m certainly not crying, nope, not at all #ComicRelief Thank you, Lenny.”

Comic Relief is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
