Amanda Abbington’s huge new career move with A-listers following Strictly exit | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Strictly Come Dancing star Amanda Abbington has revealed she will be starring in a brand-new film alongside A-list actors. It comes after the Sherlock actress suddenly departed the BBC show earlier this year, citing “personal reasons” as the reason for her exit.

Amanda, 51, took to Instagram this evening to share a teaser clip from the film with her 138,000 followers. The video saw Amanda’s character sitting with a little boy at a dinner table, where they could be seen having a serious conversation about bullying.

The short film, titled The Spaceman, was released at the start of this year. The Tomfoolery picture, directed by Tomfoolery & Alexander Jeremy is available to watch on YouTube now.

The cast includes huge Hollywood stars including Colin Farrell, as well as child actor Woody Norman in the central role. Megan Purvis, who has previously starred in shows like Vera and The Diplomat, also features.

The short film’s description reads: “Not everyone knows how to handle the harsh realities of bullying, but if you seek an answer, the story of The Spaceman might just help. Tonight’s bedtime tale explores the challenges faced by a young boy named Danny.

“As his mother tries to address his school-related struggles, an enigmatic “Spaceman” becomes Danny’s cosmic confidant.

“So settle down and come join us on this intergalactic journey as we learn a thing or two about the power of listening and communicating with the ones we love.”

They also included a donation link here, adding: “Happy New Year and thank you from all of The Spaceman Team.”

Amanda, who has appeared in shows like Sherlock, Mr Selfridge, Inside No. 9 and I Hate Suzie, made waves when she quit Strictly earlier this year.

The star, who was paired with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, withdrew from the competition just five weeks in.

She told fans at the time: “It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue.

“It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside.”

She went on to thank the production team and “everyone on Strictly who looked after me and who are so kind and caring”.
